In The Beginning

Hi, my name is Heather Manzie and I am the proud owner of Kelbonny Cockers and a devotee to all my dogs.

I have a small Hobby/Show kennel and am located in the beautiful Kingdom of Fife. I have been showing and breeding Cocker Spaniels for over 20 years and during this time the Kelbonny name has become synonymous with quality show dogs and pets.

As a caring & reputable breeder of Cocker Spaniels I carry out the recommended health screening tests for cocker spaniels including: OptiGen prcd-PRA & OptiGen/Antagene FN testing, KC/BVA Eye Testing & KC/BVA Hip Scoring, thereby ensuring that my puppies are not only happy & sweet natured but they are healthy too.

Cocker Spaniels have always been my dream from a very young age.

My young sister suffered from asthma and was allergic to fur and feathers so my parents would not allow me to have a dog. (I wanted to get rid of the sister, Ha! Ha!) Anyway, years later in 1985, my dad bought me my first Cocker Spaniel, Karess. She gave me lots of joy and fun and was a beautiful dog. The lady who sold her to me suggested I might like to show her and so I took her to her first show when she was just six months and she won her puppy class. From then on I was hooked.

I met some wonderful people on the show circuit and made many new friends, one of whom was a lady called Edith Jamieson. She had a litter of pups which included my next addition to the family, a lovely Tri-coloured girl called Bliss. Bliss was the most beautiful dog I had ever seen and had the most wonderful temperament.

Unfortunately, on 26th May, 1987 tragedy struck and Bliss died suddenly aged 16 weeks.

Although Bliss’ death upset me greatly, I still enjoyed taking Karess to the shows but although she did win a few times she was getting older and I decided to try my luck with a new girl. I spoke to David Todd (Chataway) about a pup from his new litter and, when I went to see the puppies, I fell in love with a beautiful black girl. I called her Bonny.

Bonny and I went on to win many classes together.

Around this time, I also tried my hand at showing Lhasa Apso’s. This first of which was an elegant girl called Keeler. Although I no longer show these beautiful dogs, they hold a place in my heart because Keeler and Bonny combined to give me the inspiration for the name of my kennels.

My dream had come true and this was the beginning of;

KELBONNY COCKERS.
